Rooney injury not so serious: Louis van Gaal

London :  English Premier League side Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has played down the extent of Wayne Rooney's knee injury after the striker missed United's 2-1 win over Stoke City Tuesday.

Rooney was injured during United's 3-0 victory at home to Hull City Saturday, but Van Gaal said that he did not expect his captain to be out of action for long, reported Xinhua.

"It's his knee, but we have to wait until tomorrow (Wednesday) to say anything about him because you never know with a knee," Van Gaal told reporters at Old Trafford.

"My opinion is it's not so serious, but I'm not a doctor. We have to wait for the scan, then we'll know more. I hope it's not so serious."

Madrid routs Cornella in Copa del Rey

Madrid :  Real Madrid whitewashed Cornella 5-0 in their Copa del Rey as Real forward Jese Rodriguez scored on his return after nearly nine months.

James Rodriguez scored two goals at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium Tuesday as the holders eased into the round of 16 with a 9-1 victory on aggregate, reported Xinhua.

The two sides played their first leg in October so that Madrid can play at the Club World Cup later this month.

Cornella's Xavi Boniquet missed a penalty in the 15th minute.

James Rodriguez opened Madrid's scoring a minute later. The Colombia forward set up Francisco 'Isco' Alarcon in the 32nd before he added a second in the 34th. Javier Hernandez made it 4-0 on the hour mark.

Substitute Jese Rodriguez scored in the 78th, 20 minutes after coming on for his first appearance after having two right knee operations following a leg injury March 18.

Random shell kills four in Libya's Benghazi

Benghazi : At least four people were killed and seven others seriously injured Tuesday by a random shell falling on a densely populated neighbourhood in Libya's Benghazi city, according to a medical source.

Witnesses said the shell hit Ben Younes neighborhood near Al-Jala hospital, leaving many victims and serious material damage to surrounding buildings and cars, Xinhua reported.

The medical source said the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.

A military source said the shell targeted the care unit of Al-Jala hospital, in which many wounded army soldiers and forces of General Khalifa Haftar are being treated. However, it missed the target and hit a number of civilians.

Since Oct 15, the Libyan army and forces loyal to the retired Major General Khalifa Haftar are waging a war to restore the city of Benghazi which had been held by Islamist militias. Some witnesses said that heavy clashes took place in the densely populated area of the city.

Benghazi, the seedbed of the 2011 protests that toppled Libya's former leader Muammar Gaddafi, has witnessed a drastic escalation of violence since then.

The city is now plagued by assassinations, kidnappings and deadly clashes between different armed groups.

Kasabian think they deserve success

Los Angeles :  Members of English rock band Kasabian believe that they "deserve" the success they've seen.

After a triumphant year, which has seen them headline Glastonbury festival and play a 50,000 attendee-strong homecoming gig in Leicester, they believe they're worthy of it all because of their hard work, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"Glastonbury was unbelievable, because we deserved that. We're proud pioneers. And there was Leicester as well. We deserve everything we f*****g get,” said Singer Tom Meighan

"We've worked so hard, me and my best friend (guitarist Serge Pizzorno) here, since we were f*****g babies, when we were 17 and we gave our lives to rock 'n' roll. Not many people can say that can they?” he added.

Apart from Meighan and Pizzorno, the band also comprises of members Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews.

300 kg of cocaine seized in south Britain

London: British crime agency and border police Monday found about 300 kgs of cocaine on a cargo vessel in southern port city Portsmouth, authorities said Tuesday.

National Crime Agency said the drugs were seized when National Crime Agency, Border Force and the Irish Garda were searching the cargo vessel Star Stratos at Portsmouth port Monday evening, Xinhua reported.

The cocaine was found concealed within a shipment of bananas which had originated in Colombia.

National Crime Agency said the investigation is under way.

"Working with our law enforcement partners in the UK and Ireland we have successfully prevented a huge quantity of what is likely to be very high purity cocaine reaching our streets," said Tom Dowdall, deputy director of National Crime Agency's Border Policing Command.

It's the second joint operation between National Crime Agency and the Irish Garda in the past three months. The first seizure of huge amount of cocaine was in September, about a tonne of cocaine was seized by the Irish Naval Service from the yacht Makayabella around 480 km off the south west coast of Ireland, the agency said.

Five militants killed in Jammu and Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar: Five militants have been killed in an ongoing gunfight between a group of militants and the army in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, authorities said Wednesday.

"Two more terrorists have been killed in Nowgam infiltration bid that has been foiled by alert troops of the army," a senior army officer told IANS.

"Yesterday, three terrorists had been killed. The total number of terrorists killed in this incident so far is five. Two of our soldiers have also been injured. Till last reports came in, the operation was on," he added.

As people were voting in the state assembly elections in Kupwara Tuesday, alert troops foiled an infiltration bid from across the Line of Control in Nowgam sector by a group of heavily armed militants.

Open to the idea of having nanny: Eva Mendes

Los Angeles :Actress Eva Mendes has shared the "struggle" of being a new mother and considers hiring a nanny in the future.

Mendes gave birth to daughter Esmeralda Gosling in September this year. 

"I'm doing it without a nanny for now, but I'm open to the idea of having a nanny in the future," eonline.com quoted her as saying

"Esmeralda has two amazing grandmothers and incredible aunties who come over and really help me. But as far as a nanny or a night nurse, for me that part of being a mother at this early stage is the struggle of not being able to sleep and not knowing what I'm doing and really going through it with her and battling out those nights," she added.
